Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says the collective West distorts, twists, and erases history to halt the progression of the Union State.

Western powers are attempting to pit the Belarusian people against Russians to hamper the Union State's progression by altering historical facts, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"Today, the collective West does not relent in its attempts to cynically falsify history. Textbooks are being rewritten, facts are being distorted and twisted, and monuments are being demolished. The goal is obvious — to sow interethnic and interconfessional hatred, to stir up linguistic chauvinism, and to set our brotherly peoples against each other in the hope of preventing the further strengthening of the Union State," Lavrov said as he welcomed participants in the Russian-Belarusian historians' forum.

Lavrov emphasized the importance of producing a historically accurate depiction of the region's development in order to curtail the Western agenda.

The Belarusian government has been a target of the collective West for its strong relations with Moscow as President Alexander Lukashenko warned that Western governments, including Ukraine, are prepared to launch a coup to overthrow him.

Lukashenko warned during a Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) security chiefs meeting on Thursday that a "violent regime change is being prepared" against Minsk. "In Poland, Lithuania, and, unfortunately, Ukraine, illegal members of armed groups are being trained," Lukashenko cautioned, before adding that "extremist sleeper cells" are also being prepared by trained operatives to later be activated across Belarus.

In May, Polish general Waldemar Skrzypczak publicly pleaded with the Warsaw administration to assist Belarusians who currently fight for Kiev to start preparing an invasion of their own nation.

Russia responded to the Polish general's threats with Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov vowing to uphold Moscow's legal obligation to safeguard Belarus, saying, "We will fulfill in the face of such blatant threats."
