Duane Earl Stone, 86, of Arkansas City, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at William Newton Hospital.

According to Duane's wishes, cremation will take place and there will be no public services.

Memorial contributions for Duane can be made to the Cowley County Humane Society. Donations can be left in care of Shelley Family Funeral Home.

Duane was born on Aug. 1, 1936 in Arkansas City to parents Lon and Lillian (Woerz) Stone. Duane was raised in Arkansas City and attended local schools. Duane was united in marriage to the love of his life, Veralene Juanita Carwile on June 24, 1955. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961.

Duane worked for Skyline for several years. He later ran "Stone's" Campground, sold used cars and portable buildings, and built campers. He enjoyed working and keeping busy, as well as fishing, hunting, traveling, gardening, collecting an assortment of items and taking care of his pets.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; granddaughter, Lisa Green; siblings, Lavern Leseman, Norma Kelley, Phyllis Babcock, Marvin Stone and Melba Turner; and son-in-law, Jim Rymer.

Duane is survived by his daughter, Patricia Rymer; son, David Stone (Lois); grandchildren, Becky Hay (Stacy), Ashley Lawson (Kyle), and Trenton Stone; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, Paul Stone.
